What is Biotin?
Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, is known for its ability to make hair strong and shiny, preventing hair loss, and also to strengthen brittle nails. It’s also an essential component in helping the body convert food into energy, and helping to metabolise fats and protein. There’s also evidence that Biotin keeps the nervous system healthy, and that it’s important in embryonic growth during pregnancy.
What does Biotin do?
Biotin is involved in; the synthesis of glucose from sources other than carbs, such as amino acids, and biotin-containing enzymes help initiate this process. It also helps with assisting enzymes that activate reactions that are important for the production of fatty acids. Finally Biotin-containing enzymes are involved in the metabolism of several important amino acids, including leucine.
What are the symptoms of Biotin deficiency?
Thinning of the hair or hair loss, a scaly, red rash around body openings, conjunctivitis, hearing and vision problems, developmental delay in children, mild depression, aciduria and acidemia.

Are there any Side Effects/Containdications
It is water soluble and therefore generally considered safe. Redness or pain around the injection site can occur. Some medications changed by the liver such as Clozaril, Flexeril, luvox, halol, Tofranil, exitil, olanzapine, pentazocine, propranolol, tacrine, theophylline, zolmitriptan and others may not be suitable.
